Nova Direct Debits & Standing Orders

Automatic payments make your life a little easier.

Direct Debits & Standing Orders are automatic payments you can set up to pay regular bills by varying or fixed amounts.

Key Information

Benefits:

  • Standing Orders are easy to set up, cancel or amend, you can do so for free through Nova Internet Banking or Nova Phone Banking. A fee will apply should you request this via your branch.

  • Where organisations facilitate Direct Debits, they are easy to set up and can be arranged by contacting the organisation directly.

  • Direct Debits provide security against unauthorised debits from your account.

What is a Direct Debit?

The customer permits someone else (recipient) to instruct the account provider to transfer money from the customer’s account to that recipient.

The account provider then transfers money to the recipient on a date or dates agreed by the customer and the recipient. The amount may vary.

Nova Direct Debits

  • Direct Debits are used for paying bills whose amounts vary from month to month, such as gas, electricity or credit card bills.

  • For organisations that facilitate Direct Debit arrangements, to set up a Direct Debit, simply give your bank account details to the organisation you are paying. The organisation will then set up the Direct Debit for you.

  • All direct debits are governed under the SEPA Scheme rules. The contract of a direct debit is held between you and the organisation on signing of a mandate. Mandates can either be in paper/online or over the phone format.

  • Please note that if setting up a direct debit to a non-Irish organisation, they may insist on a paper mandate being signed.

  • You can cancel a Direct Debit through Nova Internet Banking and Mobile Banking, or by send Nova an email on info@novatrustplc.com. You can also cancel a Direct Debit via any Nova Branch during opening hours by submitting the request in writing, including the Direct Debit name, reference number and the Direct Debit amount.

  • While Nova will cancel your Direct Debit it is your responsibility to inform the Originator of this cancellation and to make any alternative payments arrangements necessary.

Direct Debit Restrictions

Nova offer customers the ability to set up restrictions on their direct debits. To set up a restriction please complete the Direct Debit SEPA Restriction Application form available to download below and submit to your local Nova Branch

Nova allows customers to:

  • Set an amount restriction on any of their direct debits. Direct debits presented above the amount set will be rejected by Nova.

  • Set a date restriction on any of their direct debits. Direct Debits will only be paid between the requested time period set.

  • Add an Originator to a Black-list by providing the OIN of the Originator. By requesting to add an Originator to Black-list means that you want Nova to reject all the Direct Debit payments from the Originator presented on the specified account.

  • Add an Originator to White-list by providing the OIN of the Originator. By requesting to add an Originator to White-list means that you want Nova to only accept Direct Debit payments from this Originator presented on the specified account. Direct debits presented from any other originator will be rejected.

  • You might find it helpful to instruct your service provider to collect your Direct Debits immediately after your pay day or ensure you have money in your account before your payment is taken so you don’t incur any unpaid charges.

What is a Standing Order?
